What is the Training Needs Assessment Matrix?

  1. High Priority/High Impact: Training needs that should be addressed first and will have the most impact on the organization, e.g. safety training.
  2. High Priority/Low Impact: Training needs that should be addressed second and will have a moderate impact on the organization, e.g. customer service training.
  3. Low Priority/High Impact: Training needs that should be addressed third and will have a low impact on the organization, e.g. team building training.
  4. Low Priority/Low Impact: Training needs that should be addressed last and will have the least impact on the organization, e.g. time management training.

What is the purpose of the Training Needs Assessment Matrix?

The Training Needs Assessment Matrix is a 2x2 matrix used to identify and prioritize training needs for an organization. It is used to identify which training needs should be addressed first and which can be addressed later. The matrix is divided into four quadrants, each with a different meaning. The top left quadrant is labeled “High Priority/High Impact”, and contains training needs that should be addressed first. These are the training needs that will have the most impact on the organization and should be addressed as soon as possible. The top right quadrant is labeled “High Priority/Low Impact”, and contains training needs that should be addressed second. These are the training needs that will have a moderate impact on the organization and should be addressed after the high priority/high impact needs. The bottom left quadrant is labeled “Low Priority/High Impact”, and contains training needs that should be addressed third. These are the training needs that will have a low impact on the organization, but should still be addressed. The bottom right quadrant is labeled “Low Priority/Low Impact”, and contains training needs that should be addressed last. These are the training needs that will have the least impact on the organization and can be addressed at a later time.
