What is the Maturity-Value Matrix?

A visual explanation is shown in the image above. The Maturity-Value Matrix can be described as a matrix with the following quadrants:

  1. High Maturity, Low Value: Businesses or products that are well-established but are not generating much value (e.g. a large retail chain with declining profits).
  2. High Maturity, High Value: Businesses or products that have been successful and are generating a high level of value (e.g. a large retail chain with increasing profits).
  3. Low Maturity, Low Value: Businesses or products that are new and not generating much value (e.g. a small retail store with low profits).
  4. Low Maturity, High Value: Businesses or products that are new but are generating a high level of value (e.g. a small retail store with high profits).

What is the purpose of the Maturity-Value Matrix?

The Maturity-Value Matrix is a 2x2 matrix used to evaluate the potential of a business or product. It helps to identify the current state of a business or product and determine the best course of action to maximize its potential. The matrix is divided into four quadrants, each representing a different state of the business or product.

The top left quadrant is labeled “High Maturity, Low Value” and represents businesses or products that are well-established but are not generating much value. These businesses or products may be in need of a new strategy or direction to increase their value. The top right quadrant is labeled “High Maturity, High Value” and represents businesses or products that have been successful and are generating a high level of value. These businesses or products may need to focus on maintaining their success or expanding their reach.

The bottom left quadrant is labeled “Low Maturity, Low Value” and represents businesses or products that are new and not generating much value. These businesses or products may need to focus on increasing their maturity and value. The bottom right quadrant is labeled “Low Maturity, High Value” and represents businesses or products that are new but are generating a high level of value. These businesses or products may need to focus on increasing their maturity while maintaining their value.
