What is the Media Planning Matrix?

  1. Reach & Frequency: Measures the reach of a media channel and its frequency of exposure, e.g. a television commercial may have a high reach but a low frequency.
  2. Cost & Efficiency: Measures the cost of a media channel and its efficiency in reaching the target audience, e.g. a billboard may be more expensive than a radio ad, but it may be more efficient in reaching the target audience.
  3. Quality & Impact: Measures the quality of the media channel and its impact on the target audience, e.g. a newspaper ad may be of high quality but have a low impact on the target audience.
  4. Timing & Duration: Measures the timing of the media channel and its duration, or how long it will be active, e.g. a radio ad may be aired at a specific time, but it may only be active for a few weeks.

What is the purpose of the Media Planning Matrix?

The Media Planning Matrix is a tool used to evaluate media channels and their effectiveness in reaching a target audience. It helps marketers decide which channels to use and how to allocate their budget. The matrix is divided into four quadrants, each representing a different aspect of media planning.

The top-left quadrant is Reach & Frequency. This quadrant measures the reach of a media channel, or the number of people who are exposed to it, and the frequency of exposure, or how often they are exposed to it. For example, a television commercial may have a high reach but a low frequency.

The top-right quadrant is Cost & Efficiency. This quadrant measures the cost of a media channel and its efficiency in reaching the target audience. For example, a billboard may be more expensive than a radio ad, but it may be more efficient in reaching the target audience.

The bottom-left quadrant is Quality & Impact. This quadrant measures the quality of the media channel and its impact on the target audience. For example, a newspaper ad may be of high quality but have a low impact on the target audience.

The bottom-right quadrant is Timing & Duration. This quadrant measures the timing of the media channel and its duration, or how long it will be active. For example, a radio ad may be aired at a specific time, but it may only be active for a few weeks.
