  1. Defined & Documented: Processes are defined and documented, but not consistently followed (e.g. requirements gathering)
  2. Consistently Followed: Processes are consistently followed, but not necessarily optimized (e.g. design reviews)
  3. Optimized & Automated: Processes are consistently followed and optimized, but not necessarily automated (e.g. testing and validation)
  4. Optimized & Automated: Processes are consistently followed, optimized, and automated (e.g. continuous integration)

What is the purpose of the Systems Engineering Maturity Matrix?

The Systems Engineering Maturity Matrix (SEMM) is a 2x2 matrix used to assess the maturity of a system engineering process. It helps identify areas of improvement and provides guidance on how to improve the process. The matrix is composed of four quadrants:
