What is the Employee Performance-Development Matrix?

  1. High Performance/High Development: Employees who are performing well and are actively developing their skills (e.g. completing additional training, taking on additional responsibilities, etc.)
  2. High Performance/Low Development: Employees who are performing well but are not actively developing their skills (e.g. not taking on additional responsibilities, not completing additional training, etc.)
  3. Low Performance/High Development: Employees who are not performing well but are actively developing their skills (e.g. completing additional training, taking on additional responsibilities, etc.)
  4. Low Performance/Low Development: Employees who are not performing well and are not actively developing their skills (e.g. not taking on additional responsibilities, not completing additional training, etc.)

What is the purpose of the Employee Performance-Development Matrix?

The Employee Performance-Development Matrix is a tool used by HR professionals to assess the performance and development of employees. It is a 2x2 matrix that categorizes employees into four quadrants based on their performance and development level. The four quadrants are: High Performance/High Development, High Performance/Low Development, Low Performance/High Development, and Low Performance/Low Development.

The High Performance/High Development quadrant is for employees who are performing well and are actively developing their skills. These employees should be rewarded and given additional opportunities for growth. The High Performance/Low Development quadrant is for employees who are performing well but are not actively developing their skills. These employees should be encouraged to take on additional responsibilities and given opportunities to develop their skills.

The Low Performance/High Development quadrant is for employees who are not performing well but are actively developing their skills. These employees should be given additional training and mentorship to help them improve their performance. The Low Performance/Low Development quadrant is for employees who are not performing well and are not actively developing their skills. These employees should be given additional training and mentorship, and if their performance does not improve, they should be let go.
