What is the Resource Capability Matrix?

A visual explanation is shown in the image above. The Resource Capability Matrix can be described as a matrix with the following quadrants:

  1. High Resource, High Capability: High Resource, High Capability resources are the most valuable and should be used to achieve the company's strategic objectives. Example: Highly skilled employees.
  2. High Resource, Low Capability: High Resource, Low Capability resources should be used sparingly and strategically. Example: Specialized equipment.
  3. Low Resource, High Capability: Low Resource, High Capability resources should be used to support the company's strategic objectives, but should not be relied upon as the primary source of success. Example: Experienced consultants.
  4. Low Resource, Low Capability: Low Resource, Low Capability resources should be used only when absolutely necessary. Example: Low-skilled labor.

What is the purpose of the Resource Capability Matrix?

The Resource Capability Matrix is a tool used to assess the capabilities of a company's resources and how they can be used to achieve strategic objectives. It is a 2x2 matrix that divides resources into four categories: High Resource, Low Resource, High Capability, and Low Capability.
